Mary Geer, JD, RN
Mary Geer is a Senior Consultant & Project Specialist with Weatherbee Resources. Prior to her promotion in January 2018, Mary was an Associate Consultant and has served Weatherbee clients since 2012.
Mary Geer spent eighteen years practicing law before becoming a Registered Nurse in 2006. For eight of those years, she also served as the Public Guardian for Charlotte County, Florida, during which time she addressed many end of life issues in both legal and clinical settings. After serving for two years on the Ethics Committee for Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte, Florida, Mary earned a Master Certificate in Bioethics from Medical College of Wisconsin in 2008. Prior to becoming a hospice nurse in 2010, Mary served as a hospice Volunteer for almost seven years. Her professional hospice experience also includes case management, administration, clinical management, compliance, professional development, and regulatory review.
The combination of Mary’s legal and clinical experience provides an excellent basis from which to review and evaluate program documentation, provide concise reports and plans of action, and assist with the appeal of denied claims. Mary draws on her years of advocating for Wards in the Public Guardianship program, as well as her deep interest in ethics, to work with management and interdisciplinary teams toward regulatory compliance and balancing effectiveness and best practices with the efficient use of resources.
Mary’s hospice work has included clinical administration, extensive document review and evaluation, regulatory compliance, investigations, Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) program evaluation, and audit participation on the internal, private and governmental levels. Her work for Weatherbee spans pre-billing and other clinical record audits; document and policy reviews; due diligence evaluations; Medicare Administrative Contractor (MAC) and Medicaid Integrity Contractor (MIC) audits; fraud and other investigations; on-site program assessment; research projects; and drafting independent expert opinion statements. Her clinical experience is enhanced by her years of experience in legal research, preparation and trial work, resulting in thorough work product and cohesive presentations.
